I’ve been doing audio production on and off for a while now, I used to make drum & bass and slave in the studio for something to do. Prior to that I made 4/4 hardcore in Fast Tracker II and ModPlug Tracker (yeehaww!). A few years back I got together with a mate to start writing more and just generally have some fun making hip hop. We’re from Perth, we call ourselves Selekt Few.

Here’s a couple of track we’ve put up on soundcloud for demos, both are still far from finished and will be revisited more over the course of the year:

Many of you wont know, but i live a double life drenched in Music. To keep it short, i love music and the effects it can have on people and their mentality. I used to produce a bit of Drum N Bass but i stopped quite some time ago as it wasn’t making me happy, it was leaving me in a bad mindset. Fast forward a few more years and i’ve been practicing rapping for a few years, so i started to get down n dirty and start seriously writing both beats and raps (on the mic as Percuss), what follows is the end result of a month or 2 of getting back into the studio. I’ve only managed to get vocals down for one below and that beat is jacked from Swollen Members – Heavy Thinkers, but the lyrics were so meaningful i just couldn’t resist getting it down. ENJOY.

Old Music I Made

Way back in 2005/2006/2007 my audio PC was rocking hard and i was trying my best to punch out some drum n bass and learn my way through Cubase.

What i’ve embedded below is the 2 “finished” (term used very loosely) drum and bass tunes that i did during that time. Steeple was the first tune i ever completed in Cubase, a few came before it unfinished or finished in various Tracker applications pre-2000. Unfortunately i think i lost the most recent version of both of these tracks, it’s on a CD somewhere, so enjoy Steeple and Transform, my terrible gift to you.

It’d also be nice to hear some feedback, if you want drop a comment below and let me know what you think. It’s been nearly 4 years since these were finished and while i have no intention of reworking them or revisiting them, it’s always nice to hear other peoples views.

Bliss N Eso – Flying Colours Tour

Went down to Capitol last night with some friends to catch Bliss N Eso’s Flying Colours Tour and i’ll start by saying it was off the hook. Bliss n Eso know how to rock a party, it’s just a pitty this party was held at Capitol. Theres something about this place that has screamed “OHMIGOD BADLY LAID OUT” since the first day i walked into it when it was The Globe. The major bar is at the back of the dance floor, which just happens to be right in the line of the main thoroughfare of the entire building, smart? no!

Anyway, shit venue aside, we had the pleasure of being suprised by Motley play a kick arse set, he truely knows how to hype a crowd up, unlike Phrase, who followed after him. I’m not sure if it’s because Phrase was sick and losing his voice (that’s what it sounded like) but he just didn’t seem into it. He actually seemed to relax the crowd before Bliss n Eso, which is a pretty big feat when you consider how hard Motley worked them up.

Summary: Great night, Great artists, Worth every cent and now onto the videos…

Funkoars – Black Sally

I noticed this video popup on YouTube the other day and yesterday it made it’s way to the far superior, Vimeo. For those who don’t know, Vimeo is like YouTube but better, because they host 720p content so Hi-Def is alot more Hi-Def than YouTube.

So this is the lead single off the Funkoars latest album, The Hangover, which is a follow up to the hugely successfull album, The Greatest Hits. This will be the third album from The Funkoars and i personally can’t wait to see the direction they’ve taken their music, if Black Sally is anything to go by, i’d say we’re in for another great ride. If you’re inrested in Black Sally, you can grab it now on iTunes with a bonus track that wont be on the album.

Free Icons For Android?

Over at glyFX we’ve released a new free icon set geared towards Android applications. The Android Developer Common Icon Set has been created to ease the pain for developers creating applications in Android and to provide with icons that look and feel like those that we have seen in the SDK aswell as screenshots and videos around the web.

Theres a total of 24 icons in there, covering actions that we thought everyone could use. Of course, as always the designers are more than capable (and happy) to do more custom work for customers in this style and if theres enough backing, we’d love to do some more full sets.

Obese Block Party 5, Perth

So i got in thanks greatly to some wonderful friends, though i did have to ditch another friend to go, which was a bit crap. Some videos and pics after the break. The hyde park hotel was a nice venue, but once again, just like Pegz @ the rosemount, the sound was waaay over the top. The sound system trying to be louder than it was capable of.

Ohhh shit! Pegz, man, don’t you dare wait 5 years to come back again, that was seriously awesome.

Pegz absolutely blew the roof off The Rosemount last night, along with local Obese lad Drapht and a bit of other local support. Seriously a great show from all the MC’s, my only whinge would be that just like The Rosemount always does, the sound was not good, microphones buried in overly-loud clipping music, i really hope next time Pegz touches down in Perth he gets much better audio treatment.

Hey Rosemount, who’s your sound guy? shoot him! because in my opinion he could’ve done a way better job. Also, to the guy starting the fight up front, i’m glad you got kicked out, you nearly destroyed Pegz for everyone!

The Hard Road (Restrung)

I’ve been listening to this for a week or so now and i’ve gotta say, it’s impressive. The Hilltop Hoods and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and interesting chilled out twist to an awesome album.

Now i’ve gotta say, i’d probably never accept something like this as a normal album release, but it’s a refreshing change and a nice follow up to an excellent album. Theres also a few extra lyrics in some of the songs to add a different twist and a Bonus Track not featured on the album.

Two of my favourites have to be the new releases of City of Light and Conversations of a Speak Easy, both are just nice laid back songs. I think i’ll be listening to this album for a while
